WhatIsCampFire?
Camp Fire is a national program for boys and girls from kindergarten to high school. This coed youth organization is open without exception to all youth. The Camp Fire purpose is to encourage the development of the whole child for a satisfying life now and in the future. Learning by doing is key to the program. Through projects and activities aimed at daily life, Camp Fire aspires to educate the whole child: self-development, social development and skill development. Learning is through fun with others of their age, and when projects are completed the youth get visible signs of their accomplishments through pins, emblems, and wooden beads.

WhenDidCampFireBegin?
Camp Fire was established nationally in 1910, and a short time later, in 1915, North Texas had its first group. For the past 80 years, Camp Fire has been a tradition in North Texas, thanks to its many members and leaders. The program began as Camp Fire Girls initially, and in 1975 became coed. We began to identify ourselves as Camp Fire Boys and Girls so the public would know that all kids can be a part of Camp Fire. This coeducational philosophy is one of the things that makes Camp Fire programs unique today.

WhoCanJoinCampFire?
Anyone can join Camp Fire from kindergarten to high school.

WhatProjectsDoWeDo?
Pick one and it's probably on the list of activities to do. The leader of each group guides activities in portions of the program and the children make their own choices on others. Teaching self-reliance and good citizenship is important to the Camp Fire program. All-Council programs are an exciting bonus to the Camp Fire program. The Council offers programs for the whole Council to attend if the group wishes. Programs include Funday, canoeing, camp-outs, overnights, environmental programs, Parade of Toys, Skating party, Candy Sales, Letters to Vet's, self-reliance programs, response programs, Grand Council Fire, out of town trips, and Summer Day Camp.

IsTheProgramHardToFollow?
No! There are leader guides and individual workbooks for each level of Camp Fire. Making the program go "hand-in-hand" with school and community activities also allows members to progress at their own pace. The program is balanced so that members have a chance to explore many interests and develop many new skills.

WhoFundsCampFire?
A major portion of our funding comes from our partnership with United Way. This funding in no way covers all the expenses so fundraisers are held. The participation of the members and families is encouraged and the activities are planned for enjoyment as well. Candy sale is a way that the kids can do their part for Camp Fire.

We hope you will join us by taking this opportunity to start the child you love on a healthy, happy, learning experience in Camp Fire!
